Wild For Love

January 31, 2012 by Housatonic Bloodstock

An eight-time winner and earner of $187,292, Wild For Love is a daughter of legendary Maryland stallion (and now nationally-recognized broodmare sire) Not For Love.

Wild For Love was a $130,000 2-year-old in-training purchase at OBS, and she went on to win at least one race each year from 2- through 5-years-old, including the 2015 Maryland Million Distaff Starter Handicap going one mile by almost nine lengths.  Her other victories came at five-and-one-half and six furlongs, on dirt and all-weather.

Wild For Love is out of the multiple stakes winner Sticky, whose other foals to race include $200k+ earner Fara’s Kid and 2018 winner Broad Expanse.  Wild For Love has a 3-year-old half-brother by Lemon Drop Kid named Marden at Laurel with trainer Mike Trombetta for their breeder, the Meyerhoffs’ Fitzhugh LLC, and a 2-year-old half-sister by Lookin At Lucky.

Wild For Love’s second dam is the Grade 3 winner Hairspray, and her third dam is Miss Legality, who won the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes among her trio of black-type victories.

Wild For Love’s produce record is as follows:

  • 2017 Dreaming For Love (colt by Imagining) — as a 2YO he’s so far compiled a record of (5) 1-3-1, with $60k in earnings, for No Guts No Glory Farm and trainer Jerry Robb.
  • 2018 Unrequited Love (filly by Despite the Odds) — bred by Wild For Love’s former owner, and 3rd in her class in the 2019 MHBA Yearling Show (judged by Michael Stidham, she was a maiden special weight winner in her second start as a 2YO.
  • 2019 Local Motive (colt by Divining Rod) — March foal was sold as a weanling to Bird Mobberley and trainer John Salzman, look for him to debut early in 2021.
  • 2020 (filly by Great Notion) — March foal by Maryland’s perennial leading sire (you can read why we picked him for her here), this filly is currently at St. Omer’s Farm and will join the Wasabi racing stable eventually.

Wild For Love is currently pregnant to first-year Kentucky sire Maximus Mischief in another Housatonic Recommended Mating, and will be bred back to Lord Nelson later this spring.
