We purchased Curlin’s Needle as a broodmare prospect in 2015, and she produced a pair of foals for us (a Data Link filly in 2016, and a Discreet Cat colt in 2017). We subsequently sold her when she failed to get in foal for 2018.
Curlin’s Needle was bred and raced by the historic Sam-Son Farm, and is inbred 4×3 to their “Blue Hen” mare No Class.
Curlin’s Needle’s dam, Cleopatra’s Needle, is a half-sister to Champion Eye of the Sphynx (by Curlin’s sire Smart Strike). Eye of the Sphynx, in turn, is the dam of Grade 2 winner Deceptive Vision, multiple stakes winner Eye of the Leopard, whose biggest win came in the classic Queen’s Plate, and stakes winner Hotep. Cleopatra’s Needle is also a half-sister to stakes winner Quiet Cleo, the dam of Grade 1 winner and Horse of the Year Quiet Resolve and granddam of stakes winner Behemoth, as well as to stakes-placed Clever Cleo and Loudamus. You can check out Curlin’s Needle’s pedigree here.
Curlin’s Needle herself is a sister to the stakes-placed, 5x winner of $195,000 Clearer View (by Tapit), impressive 2016 maiden special weight winner & 2017 allowance winner Cleopatra’s Strike (by Smart Strike), as well as winners Needle in the Hay, Crimson Spire and Precious Cargo. She also has a 2015 sister by Smart Strike named Strike It Royal.
