Ritzy Lass was a hard-knocking racemare who won 13 of 58 starts from 2YO through 7YO, placing in another 15 starts and earning a total of $279,766. She picked up open company black-type with a 3rd-place finish in the Winter Melody Stakes at Delaware Park as a 4YO, and won on dirt (wet and dry) and synthetic, from 6 furlongs to 1-1/16 miles, at such tracks as Keeneland, Oaklawn and Woodbine, while trained at times during her career by Mark Casse, Kenny McPeek, Robertino Diodoro, and Steve Asmussen. Among her victories were a maiden special weight at 2 and a pair of allowance races (including one by 8 lengths over eventual graded stakes winner Ultra Brat). Ritzy Lass was acquired at the end of her racing career as a broodmare prospect.
Ritzy Lass is a half-sister to three winners, and to the dam of stakes winner and graded stakes-placed Ritzy A.P. Her dam Ritzy Dame, was a multiple stakes-placed winning 2YO by Distorted Humor, who is herself out of the stakes-placed winning Stylish Aristocrat — a half-sister to Group 3 winner Triarius, to stakes winner and Group 3-placed Sharp Noble, and to the stakes-placed winner Layal.
Ritzy Lass’s sire, Old Forester, is a leading Canadian stallion and his offspring include the likes of Horse of the Year Pink Lloyd. He also happens to be a half-brother to Horse of the Year and multiple Grade 1 winner Catch a Glimpse. Old Forester is himself a son of the top broodmare sire Forestry, out of a stakes-winning daughter of the high class Irish River.
Ritzy Lass has been pronounced in foal off a single February cover to the precocious, under-rated Midshipman — read here why we think he’ll make an ideal first mate for her.
